This review is in response to the one provided by James Hatherly, below. I think the reviewer failed to see the point of the book, that when others create toxic environments, it becomes very difficult for anything to get done at all. I appreciate his theoretical knowledge, and well meaning advice, but I think his comments were made out of context for the content of this book. Yes, we all understand how important it is to overcome minor irritations, petty differences etc, but this author is addressing a far more serious set of issues, that is, what to do when someone is acting way outside the boundaries of what makes for a collegial work environment including serious sabotage issues that are left unchecked by the organizational culture and how to deal with that. Please don't confuse the right cure for the wrong cause! There are several other great books on this topic including How to Work for an Idiot Boss, Mean Girls Grown Up, Coping with Toxic Managers, and Bullies, Tyrants, and Impossible People. Many of these books are based on clinical assessments of individual personality types when they are in charge at the office and the emotional harm they create, not to mention the impact these people have on the bottom line, with poor employee retention, customer churn, and a negative corporate image. This book is a wonderful resource and source of emotional support for those struggling with toxic work environments.

How many of us have worked with people who drive us crazy--many of us.
No matter how much experience we have or how little experience we have, this book is a great reference to rethink working with difficult people. Authors, Kathi Elster and Katherine Crowley have nailed it!!!

Thank you both

I had seriously thought about quitting my job because I work with every personality in the book. The level of stress I was under having to deal with these people nearly drove me to quit.
Then I picked up this book with its very inviting title and I haven't been the same since.
The authors give you solid ways to detatch from emotional situations, and how to get what you need at work. If you are having trouble with people or bosses at work, you must read this book. It will change your life and restore you to sanity!

Crowley and Elster have written a refreshing and extremely helpful book on how to deal with problem people and situations. The book focuses on work relationships, but I found it very useful dealing with people in all walks of life, including my family. I have the Hardcover and Audio versions and use both. I recommended the book or audio version (Audible.com) to anyone who has a problem with work relationships or any other relationship. This is a perfect book to give a graduating Seniors or College students as they get ready to join the business world. It is a must read for everyone in business!
