I passed SYO-101 today with 813 points thanks to this book and MOST importantly the 800+ questions on CD included with the Practice Questions Book. It is a great deal and well worth the money if you are considering taking the Security +

I liked these books, they got right to the point. Questions were good also, with good explanations. I found this set to be the best for someone with a security background to prepare for the exam (personally, I have a CISSP), or as a capstone following more traditional preparation for new security folks. I took the S+ exam because I got an email from CompTIA saying I could get a shirt if I took & passed the exam before the end of December 2005. A shirt! Well...count me in!: )

The Exam Cram2 book is about 50% questions, and they all have full explanations.
The included CDs have the exact same question, so you have a choice how to assess your skills.
The full explanations to the questions make it easy to abuse this book, and spend time learning the questions. Don't even think about it. If after breezing through its minuscule 272 pages you don't nail solid 90%+ results on the included sample exams it might be best to fall back on other resources & save the remaining Exam Cram2 exams for later. Why? Because in other S+ books the questions are a bit too easy.

The "All in One Security+ Certification" by Gregory White is ok, as is the "Security+ Study Guide & DVD Training System". BTW, the DVD of that book is like from Saturday Night Live, its so funny. My fav quote from it: "A wireless network is a network without wires". Hahaha. Be sure too write that down somewhere. Yes, the DVD isn't worth breaking out of its package.

In addition to reading those and other books completely through I also got the `Official' CompTIA Security+ book from CompTIA directly. Its loaded with 3 CDs of endless slides w/audio. The presentation is OK, though some of the stuff is in error, but that's how it is. You should be able to pick out such errors and laugh about it. That's why you got a minimum of 2 study sources, and a positive attitude. Overall, it's a fair deal if you get it free with an exam ticket. I read their book (it's a binder, actually) all the way through as well.

The exam itself is decidedly entry level, with 100 questions to be done in 90 minutes (it really is more than enough time, as you will see for yourself). Like all exams the CompTIA Security+ exam is easy..if you study for it and have at least some relevant basic background.
TIP: start your personal notes for this test early, and live with them from the get go. Take them everywhere! The constant refresher will allow you to crush whatever port/protocol/etc trivia they throw at you on the test.
Good luck!
