The Ultimate Book of Kid Concoctions 2: More Than 65 Wacky, Wild & Crazy Concoctions (Ultimate Book of Kid Concoctions (Paperback))
asked by work on November 10, 2006 2:20 PM
From the creators of the wildly popular book, The Ultimate Book of Kid Concoctions comes a second inventive collection of wild potions and crazy crafts--all easily and inexpensively made from common household items. Kids should have a ball creating such wonders as an edible ocean (gummy fish suspended in Jell-O) or a greenhouse grown in a plastic bag. Among the 78 recipes are instructions for making such revolutionary new artistic mediums as whipped cream finger paint, dryer lint clay, and toothpaste putty. Quite a few of the concoctions are edible--chocolate bowls and fruity leather roll-ups sound particularly delicious--while others make great party activities or simple gifts. Almost all the concoctions make a perfect diversion for a bored child on a rainy afternoon. The simple, well-organized instructions make the book easy for kids ages 8 and up to use, though the authors call for adult supervision on all recipes. This is the kind of craft book that's bound to become a family favorite--in time, its large-format black and white pages should be covered with the residue of many hours of messy fun. I have both 1 and 2 and I'm happiest with the 2nd. Loads of great ideas for projects to keep the grandkids entertained and informed.

Ordered this series 12-10-2006 using a gift certificate. As of 6-1-2006 this book still has not been processed or shipped. The book may be awesome as the reviews state, but after 5 months of contacting Amazon and waiting for the shipment, I forfeited the remainder of the gift certificate and cancelled the order for this book. What a disappointment! Good books offered, but terrible service and poor delivery on Amazon's part. I do not plan to purchase through Amazon again.

I guess I'm not as disappointed with the book as I am w/ Amazon. I've had the book ordered for 16 weeks and it still hasn't been shipped. Great book really bad delivery. Be wary of amazon's ship dates.

I saw the authors on TV and thought this looked like a great book. I couldn't wait to get it from the library! I thought there would be a lot of new and interesting activities to do this summer with my kids! However, it turns out that I was so disappointed and so very glad I got this book at the library for free!
Some of these activities are not new or invented by the authors. You can also find a lot of the activites on the Internet for FREE. One example of an activity that is well known: put a carnation in water and add food coloring to the water to color your carnation.
Also, I would choose not do a lot of the activities with my kids. For example, clean out an egg put baby powder in it, tape it together and throw it on the ground to explode. That seems like a lot of work for one exploding egg!
I gave it a 2 because I did get a few ideas from this book I think my kids will enjoy. But, it took no time at all to look through this book and choose the activities. I can write them down and return the book to the library.
My recommendation. Do a search on the internet for kid activites or get the book from the library.

I own the first book, and have used a zillion times, great ideas and really no complaints. This second addition is very similar, some of the recipes are almost carbon copies of the ones from the first book. I guess I had higher hopes of this second addition because the first had been so great. I'm a little disappointed, but still have found some new ideas useful. If you love the first, I'd suggest getting the second out of the library before purchasing, to see if it would be worth it for you.
