When teenagers Lina Mayfleet and Doon Harrow lead their people up out of the Earth, fleeing their dying underground city of Ember, everything is new and a little frightening to the refugees--the sun and the moon, birds, trees, fire
and the people of Ember are strange to the 322 citizens of Sparks, one of the few towns on Earth to survive the time of The Disaster. How can they feed and house the 400 Emberites, the leaders of Sparks wonder, when they have just begun to be able to feed themselves comfortably? But if they don't, these underground people with no survival skills will surely die in the wastelands. They take them in as best they can, but grumbling and bad feeling grows on both sides. Lina returns from a failed search for her persistent vision of a city of light to find the town, egged on by the power-hungry young thug Tick, once again at the point of war, forgetting how the Earth has been destroyed before. But Lina has seen the devastation left by The Disaster, and so she risks a brave move of reconciliation, and when Doon exposes Tick's trickery, the two sides join as the new people of Sparks.
In this exciting and solidly constructed sequel to The City of Ember, Jeanne DuPrau moves the story on entrancingly, bringing along her cast of characters from underground and adding new dimensions and relationships as the action escalates to a satisfying conclusion that still allows for further volumes in this fine fantasy. The People of Sparks was a good book, but I wouldnt say that it was my favorite. This book was a sequel of The City of Ember. Although I havent read the first one, i could relate to it and also knew what was going on. One time on a regular day Doon sees that the town is having visitors and he freaks out. He runs to the towns peoples and tells them. Some how the word had gotten around town and everyone started running out into the street. Now the people have to get along with each other. That includes working together, living together, and everything else like that.
I think that you should read this book because it is very exciting and pretty interesting.

The People of Sparks
The People of Sparks is a really good book I wouldn't say it's the best book I've ever read, but it's good. The People of Sparks is the sequel to the City of Ember. The People of Sparks starts off where the last book left off. Linna and Doon finally found a way out of Ember and over four hundred people got out. A kid named Torren saw the people coming out of a cave. He told everyone and they were all surprised. The town leaders of Sparks talked with Linna and Doon and they decided to help out for a while. So the most ill families went to other families' houses to stay. Linna stayed with the town doctor because her little sister, Poppy, was very sick. After that the town leaders met up together and decide to let them stay for 6 months. They could stay if they would help out in the town.
Things started to get out of hand. The food supplies started to get low and the people from Ember started to get mad, because they would work numerous hours and they wouldn't get that much food. A kid named Tick started to get ambitious to do things that weren't good. He would start on a project and never finish it. Doon thought Tick was so cool he even went along with anything, even when it meant to hurt the people that were helping them the most.
Linna always dreamed of a place with light. So when Torrens big brother came over she snuck into his car to the unknown city. There were a lot of theories about the unknown city. Linna wanted to know the truth. She thought that it would only take like three of two days. But it didn't. It was like a month after that she got back and every thing was chaos. People were looking at each other weird and bad stuff was happening. They said they would use the weapon. The weapon was the thing that almost wiped out the population of the people of Sparks. Now Ben, one of the town leaders used the weapon and a tree caught on fire. Linna, so brave, went into the fire to help put it out. Then everyone forgave each other and things got better. The food supply was short but they survived. So, for people who like fantasy and adventure this is a good book for you.

One reason I like people of sparks is the grate detail on the charters, animals, and buildings. Another is the story line; there are two stories but one story line. Also, I like this book because; almost every chapter is a different story. Last, one thing I didn't like was that this book was made more for kids.

The People of Sparks
I give the book The People of Sparks a 4 star rating because I think that it is a book that anyone can enjoy. It is a fun, suspenseful story that is a very well written book. The best part of the book was the breath taking feeling that the main characters Doon and Lina must have had in some situations. But none the less there were a few parts of the book that needed a bit more finishing up.
This novel was about two children finding a way out of the underground city that they call home. Their city was falling to pieces of lack of electricity and food. The great machine that held their city together was falling apart. Doon and Lina find a way out of the falling city and alert the others. When they came to the surface they were stunned to see a blue sky, trees, grass and many rolling hills. All the 400 people of the underground city walk for many miles till they find a town they ask for shelter and food, will the city take them in.....or will they have to live on their own in the wilderness knowing nothing about the real world that they're on?
My favorite part of the whole book was the begining when they emerged from the cave that they lived in and saw so many strange things that they have never even dreamed about! Like trees, grasses, hills and even animals, that would be like us living in a world that everything was upside down. The roots of plant would be above ground and the leaves and branches were underground. I couldn't imagine seeing a bird flying or a furry beast on all four of its legs eating grass or drinking from a pond! Overall i think that everyone and anyone can read the People of Sparks.
