Students, professor and general readers alike have relied upon The Oxford Annotated Bible for essential scholarship and guidance to the world of the Bible for nearly four decades. Now a new editorial board and team of contributors have completely updated this classic work. The result is a volume which maintains and extends the excellence the Annotated's users have come to expect, bringing new insights, information, and approaches to bear upon the understanding of the text of the Bible. The new edition includes a full index to all of the study material (not just to the annotations), and one that is keyed to page numbers, not to citations. And, to make certain points in the text clearer for the reader, there are approximately 40 in-text, line drawing maps and diagrams. With the best of the Annotated's traditional strengths, and the augmentation of new information and new approaches represented in current scholarship, the Third Edition will serve as the reader's and student's constant resource for a new century.

Let us be honest. There are helpful aspects of this study bible but it by no means covers all truly legitimate views and arguments. Rather it seems the commentary is designed by those who are either spiritully dead(having no spirit of faith) or mentally lazy or both.
All one has to do to understand the deception inherent in any commentary and thus in the writers themselves is read the text and compare it. It is not always wrong or even mostly wrong but there is leaven of dishonesty which destroys the credibility of any scholar(student)and the comitee as a whole. One instnace which alerted me to this was my perusal of the commentary on the early chapters of Romans dealing with unnatural intercourse(homosexuality), a real test for modern men I guess, and they failed miserably and openly. Any one who reads the text must understand what it plainly says and yet they forthrightly attempt to mislead. What good is this then? This by no means destroys all the advantage that some may draw from this bible, there is some, perhaps plenty, but it is by no means authoritative except in the modern sense where authority means one has earned power to make things up or decide according to ones pleasure without a real discipline.
So I suggest, you take everything with a grain of salt, if you know anything about what goes on in academic circles, and have truly tried or do try always to hear every argument then you shoudl know that final decisions are often arrived at according to personal pleasure and agenda driven. When all is said and done , one must think for oneself, you know, the old elightenment motto, do not be afraid, do not think you need the neww priest(scholar) to interpret everything for you , especially what is plain. Thers is more, like the simple childlike correlation judgements made by these scholars(students), but I will not get into those.
As one may guess, I am what some call a conservative, but I call a real follower of Christ, trusting in Him, nonetheless I do open myself up to what others are suggesting and saying in public. That is why I have an interest in the Oxford annotated bible and the Harper Collins as well, I hope those who are called liberal do the same.
As you can see I do not examine and judge a thing according to its outward form,or reputation, as others do, but according to its help to holy faith in Jesus or its hindrance of it, after all that seems to be the criterion since that is what we are called to have and do . If a man destroys your weak faith, your shameful faith then you are defeated and lost, now how can that be reconciled with the commands of the very Bible we are interested in and which delivers the hearing of it. As it is written , faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God. I t doesn't take genius to make doubts, that is simple and easy to do, and yes of course it is fine to question a thing but some questioning is not profitable.

This is one of the most Comprehensive learner's Bible to date. History and Relegion come head to head in this new Edition. The only caution about the book is the type of paper. Very thin paper may not satisfy the scribblers of color pens and pencils.
