Created for knitters who want standard sweater patterns in a variety of sizes and gauges, as well as those who want a template from which to develop their own designs, this book provides easy-to-follow charted instructions for 18 sweaters, three in each of the six most popular sweaters constructions. Each style is then provided in 15 sizes ranging from toddler to large adult, then further divided into six possible gauges: 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 stitches per inch combining for 90 options for each of the six styles, or 540 patterns in all. The cardigan and neckline variations make for more than 1,000 patterns. Detailed schematics for finished dimensions are included, along with a glossary of techniques and a chapter on design considerations. This is a definitive resource for the passionate sweater knitter.

I've been knitting for several years and would like to think of myself as pretty far beyond the beginner stage. Even as a more experienced knitter, this book is a wonderful resource. Because it provides such great basic patterns, it is a great starting point for those who wish to bring their own designs and ideas to life but are too unmotivated to do all the math to figure out the number of stitches and shaping from scratch. I'd recommend it to knitters of all skill levels because the patterns are versitle and easy to read and use.

I'm a basic beginner who has followed a few sweater patterns and now want to branch out to knit without a pattern or changing one. This book help me to understand how this can be done. I've taken the instructions and developed a few patterns of my own and it worked.
Warning - the book falls apart quite soon. Poor book binding quality.

This is a great primer for anyone interested in creating their own sweater patterns. In addition to clear concise directions, this book also offers explanations for many knitting conventions (i.e. ribbing on cuffs). You will also find many useful suggestions on finishing techniques. All in all this book provides a solid foundation for someone interested in designing sweater patterns and will easily become a resource for troubleshooting commercially produced patterns.
