Now available in paperback, this bestselling book presents a new framework for understanding the dynamic forces at work in human affairs-not only in business, but also in personal lives, education, and even geopolitics. Focusing on cutting-edge leadership, management systems, processes, procedures, and techniques, Spiral Dynamics synthesizes changes such as increasing cultural diversity, powerful new social responsibility initiatives, and the arrival of a truly global marketplace.Ideal for managers, consultants, and strategists, this inspiring book adds power and precision to the understanding of human value systems and twenty-first century leadership. It draws UK biologist Richard Dawkins' concept of "memes" and Clare W. Grave's 'Level of Existance Theory' to lay out a very specific toolkit for managing the deepest differences in people. The authors' concept of MEMES represents a new element in the "Science of Memetics" and why ideas resonate or not. Spiral Dynamics demonstrates how, by applying the right tools at a base level rather than to surface symptoms, any bright, curious human being can begin, quite simply, to change their world.

Spiral Dynamics is an elegant view of evolving value systems in individuals and cultures which help us to see our own filters as we attempt to meet people where they are. It is not about stereotyping, although certain "memes" will bristle that it could be....the intention of Dr. Beck in carrying on the work of Clare Graves, is to use this information to work beneath the surface of major social issues, to untangle obstacles to positive change by tracking the symptoms back to the source where the belief systems at work operate...so they can be addressed in a way that will resonate and increase the chance for movement in the spiral.....which effects us all since we are all connected. There are endless possibilities for using this system....having an understanding of this expanded perspective will serve to broaden our own.

This book came to my attention through reading Ken Wilber's books. For all interested in his All-Quadrants-All-Levels model the information offered in Spiral Dynamics is fundamental to map the levels presented in Wilber's 4 Quadrants model. This book also has much practical information useful for teachers, psychologists, business coachers, social assistants, managers and anyone that deals with group dynamics [In other words: everyone, because all of us interact in several groups in our lifetime].There
are several books about memetics (after Richard Dawkins "meme" concept),but this one still is a milestone. I give it four stars because it is repetitive sometimes [perhaps deliberatedly,as a teaching device].
