Smart Medicine for a Healthier Child this question feed

Health-care practitioners are a polarized lot: generally speaking, either they subscribe wholeheartedly to conventional medical treatments, or they eschew them altogether. This can be a great source of frustration to parents, whose natural response to a child's illness is a desire to do everything possible to make that child well. Written by a natural-medicine practitioner, a traditionally licensed doctor, and a pediatric nurse, Smart Medicine for a Healthier Child presents an integrated approach to children's health care that allows a parent to do just that. This excellent reference applies a full spectrum of responses to common childhood health problems: conventional medical treatments, dietary guidelines, nutritional supplements, herbal treatments, homeopathy, and acupressure; for each ailment, general recommendations and preventive measures are also offered. The book's authors explain that their approach to health care "considers all treatment possibilities and draws on what works. Sometimes this will be an herb, sometimes an antibiotic, sometimes both." This well-researched, balanced, and clearly written reference belongs on every parent's bookshelf. --Jane Steinberg

This book was the most important parenting book that I have ever owned. It comforted me on late nights when my child (newborn-teens)might be up coughing, itching, or vomiting, etc. It gave me recommendations that I could do to help ease symptoms that my child was experiencing. While it is in no way a substitute for individual medical advise, it is an intelligent and practical guide. I often shared it with my pediatricians who were/are highly respected in their profession(and who were grateful for the varied information). It integrates Western and holistic medicine as well as wellness suggestions. I recommend it to EVERY parent that I know and I often give it as a shower gift or baby gift.

I received this book as a baby gift and practically wore it out in the first two years of my child's life. She's 11 years old now and we still use it. Because of the variety of remedies suggested, anyone can use this book and find one that's comfortable for their family. We've been able to avoid antibiotics completely with the advice from the book. It's now my baby gift of choice.

This is the companion book to Smart Medicine for Healthier Living for those with children. As the mother of 8 children I reference both often. The main difference in this book is that dosage charts are given for herbal and homeopathic medicinal options for children. It is also in alphabetical order which makes finding information quick and easy.

I love this book so much! As a mom of 2 boys, I use it all the time for myself. And I am frequently pulling it off the shelf when a friend's child is ill. I have given it to a friend who loves it, too!

One of the best things about this book is that it is organized with many different suggestions (conventional, herbal, homeopathic, nutritional and more) for each ailment. A very thorough and useful guide for any parent.

If you are a parent, you need this book. The other reviewers have done it justice, so there's no need to rewrite what's been written. This book can give mothers a great gift, and that is peace of mind and calm assurance if their child gets sick. It helps you accurately recognize and treat illnesses, to the best of your ability, should your child get sick and is very helpful should you need to consult your doctor. This book is trustworthy and has helped my husband and me tremendously in raising our seven children.
