The bestselling Route 66: The Mother Road sparked an unprecendented revival of the forgotten towns, diners, and motels along Route 66, transforming the road from a distant memory into a vibrant, internationally recognized destination in its own right. In this 75th anniversary edition, filled with colour and b/w photos, Wallis revisits the people and places that make Route 66 what it is.

Purchased this book for my husband. Author plays the Sheriff character in "Cars". (Husband's favorite character in the movie.) Book is packed with information and great pictures. Helpful for planning a trip along the route.

I purchased this book in it's original printing. Since then, there's been a fire inside me to travel Route 66. This book is like taking the trip. You'll feel you've actually been somewhere when you stop reading.

I can't sum up this book, just as no one can sum up the vastness of Route 66. Suffice to say, if you have Route 66 fever, or are just mildly interested, this book is a MUST have. As they say, "if you only buy one book..." well, this IS the one. (Though it's not the one to use as a map or guide for *your* trip)

Try to supress the urge to travel Route 66 after reading this book. I dare you.
