Robert's Rules of Order (Newly Revised, 10th Edition) this question feed

Since Robert's Rules of Order first was published in 1896, it's been the means to orderly, smooth, and fairly conducted meetings. This ninth edition of the famous manual of parliamentary procedure includes everything from the first edition, but all of the information is clarified, cross-referenced, and carefully indexed. "Where there is no law, but every man does what is right in his own eyes, there is the least of real liberty," said General Henry M. Robert, and his gift of order is as indispensable now as it was a century ago.

When it comes to parliamentary procedure in a country-sized forum or down to committee- and association-sized forums in your local town - or just to managing a group discussion - there are rules of order to ensure that people get a fair go, Robert has the Rules. It does not matter whether it is a big or a small organisation or gathering, anyone can find the appropriate simple or complex help to solve problems.

Do you want to write the bylaws for your philantropic body or the constitution for a quilting group, look to Roberts. Do you have to actually vote in an assembly? How does one vote, what are the options? If I have not paid my dues, can I still vote? Can the chairperson nominate a person for the chair? How do I run my convention? These are all questions answered by the Newly Revised edition.

Compared to the 1970 Newly Revised edition this one is on better quality paper and is easier to read. The charts and tables are clearer and there is almost 100 pages more. This edition is well worth puirchasing even if you have an older copy.

Robert's Rules of Order have been the primary reference for formal meetings and the 10th edition is a worthy revision. If you are in need of a definitive ruling on any part of parlimentary procedure this is the most complete reference that I have found.

This book is a necessity for any organization that uses Robert's Rules of Order or is drafting bylaws baed on it.

Be forewarned that this is a dense book listing all of the rules and procedures in painful detail. It's not a "read-through" for someone who wants to get a taste for parlimentary procedure. There are other versions that include a simplified run-through, though this book is still required as a reference.

Well organized, concise, and thorough. If you have to attend meetings that employ parlimentary procedure to maintain order, you may need this. I belong to several clubs, and have found the book to be quite helpful.
