In PSYCHOLOGY: THEMES AND VARIATIONS, BRIEFER VERSION, Sixth Edition, Weiten continues his proven combination of a scientifically rigorous text with selective pedagogy that makes learning easy for students. Weiten's approach is backed by a straightforward writing style, unparalleled in-text visuals and didactic art program, and in-book review to help students prioritize and retain the core concepts. Wayne Weiten surveys psychology's broad range of content with three aims: to illuminate the process of research and its intrinsic relationship to application (THEMES); to show both the unity and diversity of the subject (VARIATIONS), and to invite students to the study of psychology by respecting their ability to master its fundamental concepts. Weiten's Themes and Variations provide unifying threads across chapters that help students to see the connections among different research areas in psychology. Integrative themes?including empiricism, theoretical diversity, sociohistorical contexts, multifactorial causation, cultural heritage, heredity and environment, and subjectivity of experience?are woven throughout the text to provide connections among the different areas of research in psychology. The book's dynamic, teaching-oriented illustration program further enhances these themes. Weiten reinforces concepts through exercises that appear at the end of every chapter. At the same time, the author presents topics in a hierarchical manner, giving students handles they can use to prioritize concepts within the chapter.

I am taking all distance learning courses and I have found that this book is user friendly and informative. As a student taking distance learning courses it is important to have a good understanding of your text materials to do well. This book has many features to help you take better notes, become a better reader, and allows you to test your knowledge throughout various points of each chapter as well as at the end of each chapter. This book contains personal applications and critical thinking applications at the end of every chapter. These elements of the text allow the student to apply what they have learned to their personal experience as well as their educational experience. This is a great pick for the distance learner and any student who appreciates a good education.

Before you shudder because your Intro Psychology professor made you buy this book, be grateful. This is one of the best Psych texts out there, hands down. The only letdown with it is how much it costs. This book explains everything in such a manner that you can actually learn from it, by drawing examples from college students' lives, offering quotes and other info from the founders of Psychology, and even issuing oddball info on the human mind that you won't find elsewhere that will help you keep it all straight for your tests. Finally, this book also has an excellent colletion of study guides and internet resources. Coupled with a professor who uses this book to its maximum advantage, you will have an easier time understanding your intro Psych class. A really great text.

This study guide was wonderful, it helped me to get an A in my general psychology class. If you read the material and then follow it up with answering the questions in the guide you too may do well in this class. This study guide is a must!!!
