An erotic fan favorite makes her mark with a sexy new paranormal series.
In an intriguing new world, genetically altered Breeds and the humans who created them commingle-and sometimes cross the boundaries of desire. Now, an empathetic sheriff's deputy and an arrogant Feline Breed hunt elusive killers while falling prey to their insatiable hunger for one another.

The book was great. Hot and heavy just like you expect for the breed series.

I thought it was a fun read. Alot of sex--which you should expect in a Lora Leigh novel. There was a definite plot. Someone is trying to kill Megan for what reason we don't know. Braden is sent to find out how she is involved with Breed afairs. I liked the Braden character. I found him charming up until he starts getting overbearing with Megan, then he became annoying. I look forward to reading more.

Megan is a sheriffs deputy (her cousin is the sheriff), graduate of the prestigious Law Enforcement Academy and a very powerful empath with poor shields(due to the fact that her talent didn't come on until her last year in high school). Braden is a Lion Breed (the Genetics Council was creating Breeds by using DNA from animals to modify human DNA) and an enforcer for the Breed Council. After rescue from the various Labs the Breeds have been given rights and some degree of autonomy.
The book starts out with Megan finding a SUV, while she is on patrol, with two dead breeds in it; she is then attacked and cornered in a small cave. Her cousin can't get to her in time to do any good but Braden is nearby and locates her through a series of fissures and caves then grabs her from behind (this is generally a bad idea when someone is armed) but he describes himself as "not one of the tamer specimens". They are immediately attracted to each other as they are both serious adrenalin junkies. Bradan figures out that Megan is an Empath and as their personalties jibe very well he starts helping her get better control. Finally he mates her which induces a mating heat that can be all consuming. He also bites her several times which speeds up the flow of hormones.
There is some humour here as when Megan calls Braden Puss in boots, and when Megan is shot and tries to inspect the wound Braden growls at her and sh says "Boy your grouchy!" and he replies "you've been shot superwoman act like it" her rejoinder is "theres a way to act?"
The first 40% of the book is taken up with character and plot development which is nicely done. The plot provides good suspense but is a trifle thin. There are two good car chases although having the car thrown through the air by a explosion is getting to be a cliché. The erotic scenes are well written and very hot.
I would have rated the book higher except for persistent errors that interfere with the wilful suspension of disbelief including:
Hormones could induce mating heat but not genetic changes; a virus can do that though.
GPS is strictly a one way system.
Radar doesn't have anything to do with heat (well alright at plasma temperatures [think the suffice of the sun]).
If you are down wind of me I am up wind of you (the wind is blowing from me to you) you can smell me and I can't smell you not the reverse as the bock has it.
"The shot ricocheted around the clearing." A bullet can ricochet bouncing off of rocks, tanks, etc. but not a shot and a ricocheting bullet is unlikely to hit anything aimed at.
Megan has been offered high paying positions elsewhere and "resigned after her final training exercises" in the latter case it would be assumed that she was a screw up and she would have had problems finding any job.
I realise this is a fantasy but the above are only a sampling of annoying errors.
