Based on the book Marie-Antoinette: The Journey by Antonia Fraser, Sofia Coppola's Marie Antoinette is a powerful and sympathetic film of the tragic life of France's iconic and misunderstood eighteenth-century Queen. Shot entirely in France, much on location at the Palace of Versailles, the film is visually stunning, bringing together a cast that includes Kirsten Dunst, Jason Schwartzman, Rip Torn, and Marianne Faithful, and the extraordinary costume designs of Oscar-winner Milena Canonero (Barry Lyndon, A Clockwork Orange).
A moving story of naivety and responsibility, reputation and misunderstanding, Marie Antoinette is a film that Sofia Coppola has wanted to make for years. In a book that is at once the personal chronicle of a major work and a beautiful tribute to the potential of film, featuring elements of the director's own screenplay as well as captivating stills, the director's personal photos, and original designs for costumes and sets, Marie Antoinette is an essential companion for any lover of modern cinema.

In Cannes SOME of the critics didn't like the movie but the movie was graced with lots of cheers by its viewers. Once again, the masses aren't right. The story is innacurate - yes! could be, but this movie isn't focused on history!

In Marie Antoinette, we entered in a camp aesthetic world - forget about the history. There is also a pair of Converse All-star among the Antoinette's shoes...

Good movie (although not terrific) and Sofia Coppola is already on another planet - she gets my attention for the fabulous camp aesthetique!
The soundtrack is wonderful also!

I bought this book - I normally buy movie books of the films I like.
I was pleased with this book! 1 and 2 star reviews for this book are not accurate! 3 stars and half is fairer. It is beautifully presented, with 2 LOVELY varnished pictures on the baby-blue hardcover. It has beautiful photos by Director Sofia, Leigh Johnson and Lance Acord - some are better than others, obviously. But I prefer a less quality photo than not have none.
There are also nice pictures from Asia Argento (Madame Du Barry), Marie Antoinette in the orchard near the Petit Trianon is marvellous. There are also sketches for the food castles and deserts. Even the very strong dustjacket is beautiful - all the lettering is engraved. The outside as seen on the picures is in powder-blue (fabric pattern) and the inside dustjacket in hot-pink.

IF YOU LIKE THE MOVIE - you'll like this book. Believe me!

This is nothing more that a very overpriced screenplay, nothing more, I, like so many of the other reviewers, was disappointed and more than a little perplexed at the staggering price, for such a lackluster cheap book. As for the movie, well I, like so many people was impressed with Lost in Translation, of course I love Bill Murray, but I was extremly disappointed in this film, who ever did the casting for this film..with the exception of Rip Torn as Louis XV, should turn their work visa's in, I mean Jason Swartzman as Louis XVI, are you serious, Swartzman is hideous and such a strange little man, and I did not buy Kristen Dunst for one minute as the Hapsburg Princess, neither of them looked the part at all, I did appreciate the authentic Versailles interiors, and the movie was shot beautifully, but the story was totally inaccurate, I cringe at the thought that people who know nothing about Louis and Antionette will think this film is an authetic story..this is a fairy tale, and Coppola took such liberties with the story, that is nothing but her ficticious take on history and it ended abruptly, Im not sure the point of the film, it did not show the beginning of her life or the end, the Europeans at Cannes hated this film as did ninety percent of the reviews...in this case the masses where correct, Marie Antoinette is a very mediocre movie and this is a rip off of a book..I think those annointing Coppola the next Scorcesse, need to watch The Departed, now THAT'S a great movie. Oh and dont get me started on the soundtrack...good lord, what the hell was she thinking?..whatever..awful book..awful movie

I was about to order it online w/out even looking through it thinking that Sofia Coppola could do no wrong. Well apparently she can because this book was highly disappointing.
Like the reviews below me have stated, it is simply the script and some low-quality photos on plain paper.
so glad I didn't purchase it.

this book in short, did not meet my expectations. I thought it would have much better pictures of the beautiful costumes. you think of this beautiful movie and how much of M.A's life was centered around clothing. I was expecting close-ups of the amazing craftsmanship on the costumes, and sketches (which there are none). instead, I was deliverd Kirstin Dunst's high school year book, with tiny, grainy pictures of her big powdered hair.

I have been giddy with excitement for this film to open. I've always been interested in Marie Antoinette and I actually played her charactar in a play when I was younger, so when I saw this book I became overjoyed and bought it. I guess what I was expecting was a story-form version of the movie (which I've not seen yet- it releases tomorrow) but instead I received what seems to be an over-priced copy of a screen-play with decidedly few lines (I read through it ALL in 20 minutes if that...) that shows no emotion nor pulls you in. It shows some shots from the movie, that are medium quality at best and some - I dare say - low-quality and blurry photos. I am disappointed that I paid so much for something that I guess I thought would be very different.

Bottom line: If you are looking for a keepsake because you love this movie or Sofia Coppola in general, than go for it and spend your money. But if you are looking to read the book version of the movie, then DO NOT buy this. This is a screenplay only and nothing more, unfortunately.
