Zeke O'Brien may have his eyes on the title of Black Knight--the highest honor that can be bestowed upon a knight in the kingdom of Aran--but he's also after another prize: The young prince, Chris!Black Knight is a sweeping romantic epic about the relationship between the prince of a medieval kingdom and his loyal guardsman, as they embark on a life-long relationship fraught with danger, treachery, and above all, love.

I don't normally read a lot of manga, or BoysLove manga, but I love yaoi and slash, so I thought to try this one out. I've not been disappointed. It was -exactly- what I wanted, and captured my attention beautifully.

Positives:
1. The art is very lovely, and I like that manga-ka is setting up a long plot rather than setting up lemons after oranges.

2. I like that it's told more from the top's perspective than from the bottom's, and I like that they're both complex characters who adjust to their situation rather then trying to be the center of the situation.

3. I liked the side story as well, though it first turned me off. I'm not one for Priests, what can I say?

Negatives:
1. I found it tricky to figure out who was talking more often than not, but that could be because I'm not 100% familiar with reading manga as opposed American comics with their directional word balloons.

All in all, I really enjoyed this, and hope that others pick it up as well.

When I got the book, I had the "no brainer storyline of guy meets guy, guys falls in love, happy ending" mentallity. This one has pulled my heart strings. Excellent start to the series. A not so boring storyline. The writer made room for the characters to grow and mature in their love for each other. Lots of room for interesting situations and new characters. I hope the next installment is better than the first.

I agree with most reviewers that Vol 1 is to set up the groundwork. A lot of characters are introduced, mostly young pretty guys as this is BL/soft Yaoi. There is alot of potential for interesting development in future volumes and let's hope so.
Although stereotypes, the uke and seme are compatible though their sex scenes could be more expressive. The plot about a prince and his knight in shinning amour seems to be as old as time but I do have a soft spot for such medieval romance.
The mangaka's artwork is pleasing and one has to appreciate the details she gives to the medieval era including the fighting scenes. This is one series I will follow.
I enjoy the bonus short story, "Deadly Sin" about a tormented young priest. I wish this could have been a longer main story or series as I love stories about priests leaving their faith for the sake of love, better still if it is love for a guy. Now this is one plot that is so far missing in the Yaoi/BL mangas.
