Reviews
Highly recommended strategy book. No practice tests, but excellent strategies presented in an easy to digest format.
This is a pure strategy book, like Barron's SAT 2400, and it lacks practice tests. If you want one book for SAT prep, this is not going to cut it since it lacks practice tests. One possible solution would be to pair this book with either The Official SAT Study Guide or Princeton Review's 11 Practice Tests for the SAT and PSAT, 2007. The Official SAT Study Guide contains 8 tests, from the people who make the test, but they lack explanations. Princeton Review's book has explanations and the Equating sections, but the tests are not made by the test makers.
However, it provides some of the best strategies available. If you want to know what the top tutors know, this is likely the book for you. Admittedly, Barron's SAT 2400 probably covers all of the same strategies, but when the tutors at CEEAE covered this book they all remarked at one time or another: "I thought I was the only one who knew this". The strategies in every subject area were accurate and effective. Further, the presentation was more concise and more effective than Barron's SAT 2400.
I think the best part of the book is the essay section. The College Board grades essays on a scale of 1-6, and so this book gives you an example of the average score 4. It goes through the 4 essay and gives you specific ways to raise that grade. It then gives you an example of a six. There are also numerous pratice questions.
Overall, I only have one problem with the book and that is the lack of practice tests. Though it does have review practice at the end of each section, it doesn't have a full length test. If you are going for the perfect 2400, I recommend this book and a book of just practice tests. Good Luck!
