It's the beginning of a new era for Iron Man as renowned scribe Warren Ellis joins forces with digital painter Adi Granov to redefine the Armored Avenger's world for the 21st century - a landscape of terrifying new technologies that threaten to overwhelm fragile mankind! What is Extremis, who has unleashed it, and what does its emergence portend for the world? Collects Iron Man #1-6.

Between the very few reviews posted here and the low sales this series got when they "relaunched yet again" Iron Man's monthly title, The story if you can call it that reads like a poorly plotted edition of one of Tom Clancy's lesser Techno Thriller novels. Needless to say the artwork got more praise then the actual story. Not surpriseing because Mr. Ellis's work shows his inability to understand Marvel Comics Characters, much less write them.
The story did more harm then good, and not long after this, Iron Man was relaunched yet again.

This volume shows how Iron Man should always be:
1)with adult / not childish prose.
2)with the right balance between storytelling (even if not totally original) and action sequences.
3)with modern and great Iron Man suite design.
4)with great realistic art (Adi Granov rules!)

I am kinda new to iron man but wanted to read a reinterpretation of the origin. This graphic novel has a "flashback" sequence featuring the original Asian inventor/scientist and the original bulky, silver iron man suit. Good ending too.

As someone who left the Marvel Universe during college but recently picked back up 15 years later, I really enjoyed this graphic novel. I have been catching up purely through graphic novels/TPB's rather than the comic book route itself, and I really enjoyed Extremis to the point I couldn't put it down.
