Alexandra Freemar is spending two months in London to write her first novel. Survivor of a failed marriage and eighteen failed jobs, Alix is determined to succeed, and she doesn't want any distractions, including those of the male variety. But when she meets Detective Inspector Alexander Black, Scotland Yard, her heart seems to disagree with her rationale. At first he seems cold and overly polite, but it doesn't take long before he shows her that exactly the opposite is true. As things heat up between them, Alix, at a loss for how to proceed, thinks that she has failed once again, when really the only thing she has failed to do is understand true love. This book reiterates the difference between love and lust and why love is infinitely more important in life. It is fairly quick-paced, and readers will become thoroughly engrossed in Alix and wonder why she doesn't know a good thing when she sees it.

Like many of the other reviewers I could not see these two leads as a realistic couple. They are exact opposites. I realize this sometimes works but it never worked for me in this book. She is irritating. Everyone once & a while she is funny & quirky.
The male Alex was sometimes boring & a stick in the mud but at least he seemed to be sane. The female Alix is just a mess. I found myself reading fast just to get to the end of the story. I will admit that I have read this book a while ago. Maybe I enjoyed it more the first time. I couldn't really remember it so I trudged through it again.

I LOVE Katie MacAlister's books, but I have to say I was very disappointed with this one. The heroine was not at all likeable, I'm sorry to say. You never get why the romantic characters (Alex and Alix) like each other, and they don't seem to have anything in common besides sex. I can't see why they would stay together. As I said I really love Katie's books, usually, but this one was not as developed as her other works. Try reading hard days knight, or one of the Aisling Grey novels, to get an idea of how good Katie really is.
