Eric Jerome Dickey, the six-time New York Times bestselling author of Drive Me Crazy, returns with a sizzling new novel of romance and betrayal.

Just how well do we ever really know the person sleeping next to us?

Sometimes we know everything.
Sometimes we can never know enough.

In Genevieve, Eric Jerome Dickey has crafted a masterfully twisted tale of intrigue, hidden identities, and self-discovery. It's the tale of a man torn between the love of his beautiful wife and the sudden arrival of his wife's sister—a mysterious and provocative woman who offers him the passion he craves, but at a steep price.

Both women harbor secrets, the answers to which appear to lie in a small Southern town filled with darkness, danger, and the promise of pain. Soon nothing is as it seems and no one is who they claimed to be, including the man caught in the middle. As the truth bubbles closer to the surface, everyone's world threatens to fall apart.

In a story packed with revelations at every turn, Eric Jerome Dickey takes us on a journey filled with deception, careening down a highway bound for destiny . . . and disaster.

I am a big fan of Eric Jerome Dickey's novels. I have purchased all of them However, this one didn't thrill me. It wasn't a bad book, it was just a little boring.

It took me a year to finally complete this book. And honestly, the only reason I completed it was because I had nothing else on my bookshelf to read. This book dragged on and on to the tiny climax about 5 pages from the end. What a waste of such a beautiful book cover. Do not waste a year of your life or a dime of your money!

In Genevieve, Eric Jerome Dickey gives us an inside look into the anatomy of an affair and whether you can ever really be truly happy with the person you've married. The unnamed narrator is an AIDS research married to the brilliant and successful Dr. Genevieve Forbes, a well-educated black woman who has a past full of secrets. When tragedy strikes in her family, Genevieve and her husband's lives are thrown into disarray as they travel to her home town of Odenville, AL for a funeral. Along the way the narrator strikes up an affair with the person who would cause, quite possibly, the worst sense of betrayal in his wife--her sister.

Eric Jerome Dickey takes African-American fiction to a whole other level. His characters don't have to be gritty and urban to fit the stereotype of what people might expect of a typical African American romance. His writing sparks and his words are real without using slang or gangsta lingo to "keep it real." Unlike other authors, he doesn't have anything to prove which makes his books a joy to read. His books like Genevieve keep it real in a way that appears to be effortless--and is most certainly addictive.

I'm never disappointed when I read one of EJD's books as I have been before by books put out by Kimani Press or some of those listed in the Essence Book Club. I would also recommend his previous books Milk in My Coffee and Liar's Game which are two of my favorites.
