This got a 4 out of 5 star rating because I haven't finished reading the book yet or had a chance to implement some of the tips and tricks mentioned in it. This book is an easy and fast read, unlike many others on the subject that assume that you're already in the movie making business. The author guesses, correctly in my case, that you are just starting out and don't know anything about the business.
I will update my review once I've finished the book and tried some of the author's suggestions. If you're interested in making your own movie, this book will be a welcomed addition to the many that you probably already own.

This book is simply incredible! The author has done an amazing job guiding you through the complex process of independent filmmaking: from getting the great script to dealing with distributors.

What I loved the most is the plain language in which everything is laid out, the optimistic can-do attitude injected into every page, and the workshop style on every chapter to practice what you've learned, sharpen your skills, start networking and get one step closer to finishing your film.

It's like having a one on one conversation with Dov S-S Simens as he points out invaluable resources that are essential to assemble every element of your film. EVERYTHING you need REALLY IS in this book (of course the book leads you to counless other publications, websites, organizations, agencies, guilds)!!

This book is a producer's bible!

I am a producer-director with over 50 local and 30 national commercials under my belt. I have gone to film school, spents 4-years and wasted (now in retrospect) almost $120,000. Why? Because I should have read Dov's book for only $18.95. For "FROM REEL TO DEAL" gives more practical, realistic information about how to break into the film industry with your initial independent feature film then I acquired after 4-years at NYU Film School. If this book was available when I was in film school, and I had read it, I guarantee you I would have dropped out of NYU and launched my feature film career. Thank you Mr Simens for giving the real information about how Hollywood and the Film Business truly works with respect to independents. Buy this book!
