This new edition of the best-selling Case Study Research has been carefully revised, updated, and expanded while retaining virtually all of the features and coverage of the Second Edition. Robert Yin's comprehensive presentation covers all aspects of the case study method--from problem definition, design, and data collection, to data analysis and composition and reporting. Yin also traces the uses and importance of case studies to a wide range of disciplines, from sociology, psychology and history to management, planning, social work, and education.
New to the Third Edition:
This edition also includes references to examples of actual case studies in the companion volume Applications of Case Study Research, Second Edition (Sage, 2003).
Reviews
Case studies are very powerful yet often abused way of conducting research. Its often abused because the researcher or student does not know what constitutes good case study research.
Yin's book is a unique combination of academically sound process and techniques that are presented in a way that non-academics can read and understand.
Yin makes the use of case studies and examples in more than 30 boxes that clearly illustrate the concepts and their application.
This book is mandatory for anyone looking to conduct and use case studies to prove and make their point.

This book is perhaps the prime book for those conducting case studies for qualitative research in the social sciences. People have developed PhD methodology entirely based on the contents of this book. The third edition contains updated material and up-to-date citations and case study examples.
I would recommend this very highly to anyone using case studies in graduate-level social science research.
