A Common Lady
For years she had thought he was dead. Yet when Addis de Valence strode into Moira Falkner's cottage, there was no mistaking the sharp planes of his face, and the scar she herself had helped to heal. The young squire who had once been her hero was now her lord, a hardened man who returned to claim the son she had raised as her own. But Moira couldn't deny that Addis roused a passion she never thought to feel--and a perilous hope for a future that could never be....
An Uncommon Love
Addis returned from the Crusades to find his lands usurped by his stepbrother, and his country on the brink of rebellion. Determined to reclaim his birthright, Addis could not afford to be distracted by a woman--even one as tempting as Moira. Yet the only living part of his contented past lay in Moira--and his desire for her was more dangerous than his deadly battles with the king's men. By law, Moira belonged to him...but possessing her heart might be far more difficult.

By Possession tells the story of an umcommon love between Moira Faulkner who is a serf-born bond woman and Addis de Valence, a crusader knight and Lord of Barrowburgh. After supposedly being dead for 8 years, Addis reappears in Moiras life and everything gets turned upside down. The storyline has everything from battles and wars, and exiled king, enslavement, a childs birth secret, a treacherous brother and wife, to traitors who will try to corrupt Moira and Addis. All the while still keeping the love and passion between them. Nothing is missing from this exhilarating read. The only tiny flay is that I thought the book ended abrubtly but it still has a great ending nonetheless. Overall, By Possession is a freat historical romance that I would recomment for all romance lovers. I definetly give this book 4 1/2 stars!

Moira is a beautiful, proud and courageous serf-woman who has loved only one man since she was twelve. Until he showed up on her doorstep to claim the son she had raised, she believed that man was dead. Her pride and love for Addis will constantly war within her, because she knows he can never marry her. The only role Moira can play in his life will be as a mistress, until he tires of her.
Moira saw what her mother had to endure as a mistress to another nobleman and swore that she would never allow it to happen to her. But now her oath will be sorely tested as she fights to walk away from the love of her life.
For eight years, Addis de Valence was a captured slave in the Baltic lands until his lover, the daughter of a priest, helped him escape. He returns home to find that his father, wife and most of whom he loved are dead, his stepbrother has taken over his father's estate and he has a son he didn't know existed. Now he has to fight to regain all that he has lost. But in his quest, Addis will discover a love that will mean more to him than his life; a love in a woman who is not his equal in the eyes of society.
This is perhaps one of the best love stories I've ever read. Madeline Hunter's gift for weaving an enthralling and passionate story is astounding. Her characters easily come alive with her words. Their flaws, insecurities, longings, and pain flows out of each page as you are seduced into the intriguing world she has created for her characters. The storyline is complex and bloated with intrigue and heartbreak. You'll be enthralled to the last page.
