Now in paperback and updated with new material and photos, this acclaimed book is the first to examine the guitars, basses, drums, keyboards, amplifiers - everything The Beatles used to become historyÕs greatest rock ÕnÕ roll band. It analyzes all the gear and how the trend-setting Beatles played it to sculpt an unforgettable range of sounds. Year by year, Beatles Gear examines in fine detail specific instruments, amplifiers, and other equipment used by each artist - from the pre-Beatle days in 1956-57 Liverpool, throughout the global Beatlemania of the Õ60s, to the groupÕs disbanding in 1970.

This book is very well researched, compellingly written, and features recent, detailed photos of many of the Beatles' original instruments (most of which are are still owned by the artist or the estate).

It is revealing to look at condition these famous instruments are in today. While McCartney's instruments are in "perfect" shape, definitely vintage but buffed out, chrome parts perfect, etc, many of Harrison's and Lennon's guitars show dents, stratches, oxidation, etc. A visual reminder these were tools and not "icons," and how trashed the instruments got after night after night of playing, which the author explains very well in his text.

Also documented is how the Beatles (especially George) gave some of their most famous instruments away(!) to their friends and fellow musicians. Delaney Bramlett, for example, got Harrison's famous Rosewood Telecaster, which is pictured in all its glory.

Recommended for musicians and Beatles fans.

Two important characteristics you need to ensure you'll absolutely love this book. If you are 1) most importantly a Beatle fanatic and 2) possess a fascination for musical instruments and equitment, particularly guitars, then you will not want to put this book down. Of course Beatle fans love to learn all we can about the boys and this book tells their story from a unique perspective. Great pictures and descriptions, and very well researched. In my opinion there are four books that must be in your Beatle library, 1) Anthology, 2) Shout, 3) Here, There and Everywhere, and 4) this book.
