The Caped Crusader faces the menace of the Axis powers in these tales, dating from the dawn of World War II. Along with saboteurs and Fifth Columnists, Batman also takes on the menaces of classic villains including the Joker, the Penguin, and Catwoman.

But the thing that makes the olden-days Batman cool is that he and Superman were pals and so Superman wouldn't want to beat Batman up unless Batman turned evil, which could never happen even under hypnosis. The modern-day Batman is just evil, so Superman would be justified in beating him up.
