When Helen Schucman, a professor of medical psychology at Columbia University, began hearing an inner voice of rapid dictation (which she eventually identified as the voice of Jesus), she decided to start taking shorthand notes. Then, with the support and encouragement of a colleague, Schucman continued to assemble the teachings that came to her. The result is A Course in Miracles, a book that has spawned hundreds of study groups and an international following. Although some may find the teachings simplistic ("To heal is to make happy"), many are struck by the predominately compassionate and eloquent passages of this Christian-based interpretation of the Bible ("Whenever you deny a blessing to a brother you will feel deprived, because denial is as total as love"). Indeed, many of the teachings carry weight and certainly merit the acclaim and attention that this book has generated. --Gail Hudson

In college I took a basic philosophy course, Plato,Socrates, etc. There's a lot of it I don't remember, but one piece of it that has always stayed with me is Plato's description of the Cave. Boiled down, it implies that all we see is an illusion, that all we experience with our 5 senses exists in our own minds. If you buy into that possibility, that physical reality isn't as real as we'd like to think it is, then this is an excellent book for you. Yes, it's a bit of a New Age view, but how 'New Age' was Plato?
I agree with some of the other reviewers this book is a bit circular and if you pick at it you can find inconsistencies. Does any guide have to be perfect to be of value? I'm willing to take the parts that work for me and discard what doesn't fit.
If you're looking for the ultimate guide for life, the universe, and everything I wish you luck. This book will help some people to find a piece of the puzzle we call life and hopefully make it fit for them.

This is simply the best book of its kind. Truely what it claims to be. As you do the course, you can energetically feel it taking effect. It will change your life. Read "Disappearance of the Universe" before reading this book. It will help a great deal in your unrderstanding.
